Cake making

Despite not being able to see how this was really going to effect our group and the decisions that we make, this exercise of making simple cupcakes has turned out to be a pivotal point within our project! As we made the cakes and chatted about our ideas, it became apparent that we were all looking into very different areas
Engaging in cake making

Jessie- looking at repeated patterns including shadows as crafted repetition
Jenn- looking at the idea of the spiders web as its home and how different animals have different types and styles of homes
Tammi- looking at the idea of people wearing the same kind of clothes but showing their personality through the ways that they accessories and wear it differently

From looking at the cakes that we made, despite the fact that each one was made in the same way, with the same ingredients, cooked in the same way and for the same amount of time it was clear that each cake was unique and different....

The result- individually unique cakes
through a discussion and mind mapping process we came to the conclusion that looking at ourselves as 'crafted multiples' would be the most interesting idea for us to all engage with instead of pursuing different routes. Ourselves are all unique and very different however there are ways that society and different influences such as people around us and the media try to make us conform into looking into a certain way. I'm excited to pursue this idea further...

  1. This was a really important activity for us and I think that this has helped to focus our research. It was initially planned as more of a team bonding exercise, but it actually became part of the idea - about differences. This was important for us, and I hope that we can move onto this idea and come up with a strong concept from this!
