Conformity through the media

After looking through a few magazines I noticed just how much the media influences what we wear, eat, act and generally feel about ourselves and other people.

We constantly judge how celebrities act, yet still feel the need to find out what they're wearing, the make-up they use and the food they eat. Why? So we can be more like them?
I think this will be interesting for our project as it makes you think about how the opinions from the media can craft us to think and act the same.

  1. This is such a huge issue that we face today with millions of people frequently looking up to celebrity culture where they find photoshopped images and unrealistic pictures to measure themselves against. I feel strongly that this is an unhealthy and bad way to be living constantly comparing yourself to others. Why is there such huge pressure to look a certain way? Why can't we be happy and content in our own skins and be valued for who we are inside?

  2. I think the media can be really judgmental! It always focuses on weight as an issue and how to get the outfits like the celebrities. This is something which we could explore, as it is another aspect which makes people conform, as fashion can be a form of uniform for people.
